Problem

Waste Control Specialists, working with the City of Andrews, Texas, had gained approval from federal, state, and local officials to build the nation’s premiere radioactive and hazardous waste facility in the nation.  Special interest groups opposed to the project were spreading disinformation on the risks and benefits of the project using social media to reach elected and appointed officials.

Approach

Our social media and digital team developed a plan to make sure the facts, as confirmed by regulators at federal and state agencies with jurisdiction over the facility in Andrews, Texas, were available on all the major social media networks and clearly available to the media, citizens of Texas, and elected officials in Austin and Washington, D.C.  Utilizing cutting edge search engine optimization in conjunction with social media marketing and online crowd engagement, those facts were presented in real time.
